1st Place: TAKEOVER

By: SZN Supplements

Pros:

  • Effective Dosages: High doses of key ingredients like L-Citrulline Malate, Beta-Alanine, and Betaine Anhydrous, which are in line with clinical research for efficacy.
  • Focus on Hydration: Contains Pink Himalayan Salt and Potassium Chloride, which help maintain electrolyte balance.
  • Energy Boost: Includes Caffeine Anhydrous for an energy boost and Alpha GPC for cognitive function
  • Additional Performance Enhancers: Contains L-Theanine to potentially reduce jitters associated with caffeine and Black Pepper Extract for enhanced absorption of nutrients.
  • Low in Calories and Carbs: Only 15 calories and 2 grams of carbohydrates per scoop, making it suitable for those on a calorie-restricted diet.
  • Transparent Labeling: Clearly lists the amount of each ingredient per serving, allowing consumers to know exactly what they are consuming.
  • Multiple Serving Options: 2 different serving options (1 scoop/2 scoop) to give customers at different levels accurate information to dose properly to their level.

Cons:

  • Only sold online
  • No Sample Packs

The Bottom Line

TakeOver Preworkout is designed to provide a powerful boost in energy, focus, and endurance. Known for its high caffeine content and effective ingredient blend, it’s a favorite among those who need that extra push during intense workouts.

Takeover also takes the top ranking due to the products ability to be adaptive to the customer.  Our team appreciated that the ingredients were broken up into a 40/20 serving model so that we could accurately dose the ingredient levels needed for our workouts. Half scoops and measurements aren't a perfect science so having a scoop sized for the perfect serving was awesome!

Speaking of ingredients, this product has it all.  8000mg Citrulline 2:1, 3500mg Beta Alanine and 1000mg Taurine for incredible pump and strength gains, 300mg Alpha GPC, 350mg Caffeine and 200mg L-Theanine for insane energy and focus, and rounding it off with 150mg of Pink Himalayan Salt and 100mg Potassium.  This product is perfectly rounded for exceptional workouts.

It is also worth noting that this product tastes great and mixed very well.  We tried the Fruit Punch and Blue Raspberry Lemon flavors and they were both true to taste, not overpowering or sour and actually extremely enjoyable.  Cherry Lemonade is definitely next on the list to try!

2nd Place: Woke AF

By: DAS Labs

Pros:

  •  High Stimulant Content (If you're into that)
  • Decent Taste - A little chalky, but true to the flavor
  • Acceptable Citrulline and Beta-Alanine Content - 6000mg Citrulline and 3200mg Beta-Alanine

Cons:

  • High Stimulant content!! (If you're NOT into that)
  • Banned Substances
  • Expensive comparably

The Bottom Line

Woke AF provides a decent pump and the Citrulline and Beta-Alanine levels are both acceptable. This pre-workout also contains 6g of Citrulline and 3.2g Beta-Alanine which is smaller doses than our top choice Takeover.  Now for the stimulants... Woke AF contains 333mg of caffeine, so if you're not into high levels of caffeine, this could give you the jitters or maybe have some upset stomach symptoms due to the high stimulant quantity. In addition to Caffeine, they also added Synephrine and Dendrobium. Synephrine and Deer Antler Extract are both BANNED in nearly all athletics, so any athletes should steer clear. This product did taste good and was effective in my workouts, but I would take this out for special occasions instead of making it my "daily driver."

3rd Place: SuperHuman Pre

By: AlphaLion

Pros:

  •  Acceptable Beta-Alanine
  • Decent Caffeine levels though some are delayed which is a negative for me.
  • Many Options and Flavors to choose from

Cons:

  • I would not take this in the evening due to delayed Caffeine release in the formula
  • No Ingredients to aid in hydration
  • Expensive for the formula

The Bottom Line

This pre-workout is split into different versions of caffeine anhydrous and delayed release caffeine. This is definitely not a pre-workout I would recommend taking in the evening... The Super Human Pre offers multiple flavors and also contains beta-alanine and citrulline which I also feel is necessary in any good pre-workout. The label information is transparent, offering both options for a 1/2 scoop and 1 scoop value in ingredients. While I do enjoy the multiple options for serving size, I do feel like measuring a half scoop isn't accurate like the proper single scoop servings from SZN Takeover in our top spot.  If taking only a half scoop, there's the capability of under dosing while also having a possibility of over dosing what you're attempting to measure.  This is also a rather expensive product for the formula.  Containing less Citrulline, Caffeine, and Beta Alanine, this product drops to our 3rd spot, but I could easily make an argument for this to be #2 as well.

4th Place: Bucked Up

By: DAS Labs

Pros:

  •  Decent Citrulline content
  • Mid levels of caffeine for those who are sensitive to caffeine
  • Many Options and Flavors to choose from

Cons:

  • Under Dosed core ingredients for pump and hydration
  • Expensive for the formula
  • Banned Substances

The Bottom Line

Unlike the WokeAF version from Bucked up, the flagship pre-workout offers a more reasonable stimulant quantity minus the additional stimulants Synephrine and Dendrobium. I would like to point out that another big difference between the two is the Beta-Alanine content. The original Bucked Up only offers 2g of Beta-Alanine per scoop which is largely under dosed in comparison to the top 3 pre-workouts listed and is a major reason for dropping this to the #4 spot. Outside of this, the 200mg of caffeine are a nice energy content and the 6g of Citrulline Malate will provide an acceptable boost needed to push through for those extra reps. This product still contains the Deer Antler Velvet which gave Bucked Up its name as is still banned in multiple sports categories making this a pass for those in organized athletics.  These products also lack the core ingredients expected from a top tier pre-workout with a taurine quantity only 1/10th of what Takeover and AlphaLion are offering and 1/3 less Alpha GPC and Caffiene than Takeover as well.

5th Place: C4

By: Cellucor

Pros:

  •  Multiple Flavors
  • Good for beginners and those with extremely low tolerance for pre-workout

Cons:

  • Severely Under dosed
  • No Citrulline Content
  • Proprietary Blends that don't provide a clear dosage of ingredients

The Bottom Line

Cellucor's C4 original pre-workout is their flagship pre-workout and easily places last in our list. Despite the respectable legacy that C4 has provided over the years, when it comes to a functional pre-workout, for me, this falls extremely short. C4 contains the lowest caffeine content, no citrulline at all, vastly underdosed beta-alanine and proprietary blends that don't provide accurate information and transparency for the doses you're taking of certain ingredients. C4 DOES contain a creatine nitrate, but unfortunately, this is under dosed and ultimately isn't providing any useful quantities of the ingredient to hit the desired results. This is an affordable pre-workout though, which is a plus and also extremely warranted for the ingredients.  If you're a beginner, this is a beginners blend.
In conclusion, while each of these pre-workout supplements has its strengths, Takeover Pre-Workout emerges as the top choice for its well-rounded effectiveness, quality ingredients, and consistent user satisfaction. Whether you're new to pre-workouts or a seasoned athlete, Takeover Pre-Workout offers a superior blend of energy, focus, and endurance to help you achieve your fitness goals.
